GIGAS

A gigas, or a giant, is a larger than life creature with strength unlike any other race. They are often referred to as titans and are usually seen as violent, malevolent creatures that show no remorse towards anyone who wanders too close. This isn't necessarily always true, though; despite being shunned and sometimes even hunted, there are quite a few cultures of giants that accept other races and are both intelligent and friendly.

Despite this, however, giants generally reside in rural places because of their status in Kateria. They very rarely wander into town, though it isn't unheard of, and they enjoy the quiet, peaceful plains more so than they do the bustling city life. There have been a few giants that have melded into everyday society, however; there have even been a few gigas that serve your local army!

First and foremost, the gigas race is known for their incredible height. Their minimum height is usually somewhere along eight feet tall, and the tallest giant to ever live was ten feet tall. They're also rather brawny; muscles are abounding with these guys, that's for sure.

Aside from their height and their weight, however, they look fairly normal. They usually possess brown or blond hair and their eye color isn't ever anything really striking. They have very structured features and usually possess a strong jawline.

HUME

A hume is a humanoid creature that is otherwise normal in appearance and sometimes normal in attributes. There are quite a few different types of humes, however; some have special abilities though there are a few that are simply normal, everyday humans as well.

Katerians
Katerians are the regular humans of Kateria. They come in every size, color, and shape. They lack special abilities and possess nothing too terribly extraordinary about their character. They can wield weapons and magic, however, just like every other race; sometimes they can even do so better. Most humans tend to stay in cities and stick with groups and societies, though there are a few that branch off and there are even a few that live with other races instead, despite their differences.

Therianthropes
Therianthropes are a humanoid, shapeshifting race that can change from their otherwise normal appearance to an animal. They go through various rituals from an early age on and have 'spirit animals', so to speak. When therianthropes turn five, they must undergo a journey and complete a handful of trials to unlock their inner animal. It is possible to fail these trials; if a therianthrope fails their trial, they may become stuck in their animal form or they simply may never learn how to unlock it in the first place. It can always be completed later down the road, but it isn't an easy task by any means. The therianthrope doesn't have the ability to choose what form they turn into; you the player does, but your character does not. Whatever spirit animal appears to them during their trial is the one that they're stuck with, essentially.

Some therianthropes get two or three small animals, while others acquire the ability to become bigger animals, such as dragons or griffons. Whenever a therianthrope shifts into their animal form, they acquire the ability that their animal possesses. For instance, foxes would be extremely agile and quick, and griffons possess the ability to fly.

Vampires
A vampire is a creature that thrives in the nighttime. They feed off of blood, whether it be human or otherwise, and cannot survive without it. They cannot venture into the sunlight at all; any exposure to the sun will cause immense pain and, after a short period of time, a very awful death. Most vampires tend to stick together; they congregate in covens and prefer the company of another vampire to that of a human. They aren't against living in cities, towns, and other urban societies, however, and they have even been known to raise up in the monarchy as dukes, counts, duchesses, or other high titles.

Hollowed faces, dark eyes, and pale skin is a common trait for vampires, though it isn't anything that makes them look too terribly different than that of your average human. They do have sharper canines than most, however, and they cannot hide them. Vampires are undead suspended in time, so while they age, they do not look different physically. They almost always appear to be in their mid twenties, it seems. To become a vampire, you must be bitten by one. It's a painful process and is oftentimes fatal, though if it succeeds it is irreversible.

MERFOLK

Merfolk are creatures that spend most, if not all, of their time in the water. They possess the ability to breath underwater much like humes can do on land. They can leave their homes in the sea, sure, but they usually don't want to, it seems.

Mermaids and Mermen
Mermaids and mermen are mostly humanoid in appearance; they possess entirely normal upper bodies and faces; the only difference is that instead of a set of legs, they possess a fin that looks quite like a dolphin tail. Much like humes, they spend their time with their families -- they tend to stick together in packs though there are quite a few different sects of mermaids under the sea.

Mermaids and mermen are usually water bound, though they do possess the ability to trade their fin for a set of legs for a very short period of time. They can actually walk on land for five days at a time but the process is very draining and leaves them seabound for another seven days. Most merfolk, however, choose to stay in the water instead.

Kappas
A kappa is an imp that lives in shallower waters. They're tricksters, essentially, but they are more often than not sinister and even malicious. They're avoided for this very reason because despite the fact that they sometimes pull harmless pranks instead of committing acts of crime such as luring in others and drowning them, they are still a pain to deal with. They also tend to live alone -- they aren't big on societies and aside from their victims and the people they prank, they don't really like company.

Kappas also have two forms -- in the water, they are small, about the size of a hume child, and covered in green scales. On the top of their head is a hole filled with water, which is said to be the source of the power. Outside of water, however, they look like splendidly attractive humes. They use their exceptional looks, after all, to lure their victims back to their homes.

FAE

A fae is a magical being that is rumored to be either a demon or an angel, though no one really knows for sure. There are several different types of fae and while they are mostly benevolent in nature, there are a few that have questionable morals.

Sprites
Sprites are tiny, winged beings that are helpful in nature and generally pick a lifetime companion from birth to watch over. Upon closer inspection, they look like small humes, but from a distance they are merely an orb of light. They possess dragonfly-like wings and can fly for extended periods of time. They are also fairly savvy with magic.

Sprites have extremely long lifetimes -- often they outlive their companions and have to choose another, for instance. They easily avoid danger as well, as they are both small and sneaky. They do, however, have a strong weakness to iron; they cannot and will not go near iron of any sort, as it weakens and eventually kills them.

Pixies
Pixies are small but not quite as small as sprites; they are, actually, the size of a hume child and even resemble a child in appearance. They have bright, cheery faces and mischievous eyes, though they possess no wings. Pixies, unlike sprites, are not helpful in any way, shape, or form. In fact, they have the reputation of being little troublemakers, though that doesn't stop them from blending into society. The fact of the matter is that it's impossible to tell a pixie from a hume child, so they can easily do their pranking in peace.

Pixies aren't necessarily malevolent, however; they like to make trouble and they enjoy playing tricks on people, but they would never do anything to purposely harm another being. Because of this, they generally like to blend into society; they enjoy the company of others and don't mind when people visit villages that are typically labeled as 'fae only.'

Sirens
Sirens are tall, lean beings that resemble what modern society would label as angels. They are gorgeous and delicate; they are, essentially, the most beautiful of beings. They possess large, feathered wings that they cannot hide and much like sprites, they can fly for extended amounts of time. They usually prefer to make their homes in elevated places or near the sea.

Sirens are actually quite tricky, however. They have gorgeous, alluring voices that they generally use to lure sailors and pirates to their deaths by distracting them and causing them to crash against the rocky shore. Most, if not all, Sirens are hostile; they don't typically make company with humes, gigas, or any other species aside from fae.

ELVES

Elves resemble humes in every way aside from their large, pointed ears. Unlike humes, however, they have a natural ability to wield bows and a inner connection to nature that other beings lack. They also have a longer lifespan than your average hume that matches a vampire or a therianthrope.

Light Elves
Light elves are the most civilized of elves; they live in Katerian towns and cities and often go through their own life much like a Katerian would. They also look remarkably similar to an everyday hume. They have light, pale skin and delicate features. They usually possess light colored hair and eyes as well, though there have been exceptions. Both sexes usually have big, expressive eyes (in the most splendid colors). They wear their hair uncut and open, have graceful, fragile features and are of extraordinary beauty. Male elves also don't have any beard growth. Very typical for elves are their pointed ears, and high cheekbones.

Dark Elves
Dark elves are the light elves complete opposite. They possess darker skin tones and darker hair and eye colors. They are shorter, stouter, and not nearly as fair as well. Instead of dwelling in the sun and, specifically in hume societies, they prefer to keep to themselves and are oftentimes hostile to those who tread in their territory. While they do enjoy nature, like all elves, they prefer the darker tones of mother nature.

Wood Elves
Wood elves are elves that spend their time in forests instead of congregating with other beings. They look quite similar to light elves. They usually choose an animal companion at birth and keep said companion all throughout their lives. They are skilled in stealth and being sneaky and often sound like wind in the forest.

DEPARTED

Departed are just as their name implies; they are disembodied spirits that have lost their mortal lives in one way or another. A departed can be benevolent or malevolent, depending on the severity of their death. Essentially, however, both spirits and poltergeists are merely lost souls that need a guide to lead them to the afterlife. Not all departed want to leave the world, however; some are quite content with aimless wandering.

Spirits
Spirits are the benevolent departed; they hold no grudges and desire no vengeance. Some are content with their version of the afterlife, some even love it, though there are a few out there that wish desperately for peace and the desire to rest for eternity. These spirits are what have spawned ghost hunters, and despite being unaware of their deaths and what happened to them in life, they do their best to figure out their past mysteries.

Poltergeists
Poltergeists are complete opposites of spirits. They are riddled with vengeance and anger. They spend their afterlife searching for whoever or whatever did them in, and often haunt random beings just for the hell of it. Instead of being passed on, poltergeists have to be exorcised and won't be dismissed unless they are.
